Rey (Reyhaneh) Zand, MBA, CIM®
Investment Counsellor
Respected for her portfolio management with institutional rigour, exceptional attention to detail, active listening, and relationships that span generations, Rey Zand joined BMO Private Investment Counsel in 2021 with more than 11 years of industry experience. Driven by her inquisitive mentality, process-driven perspective, and passion for continual improvement, Rey follows a meticulous and rigorous institutional-style investment discipline.
Rey’s career began in the biotech industry with a large multinational corporation in California, liaising between advanced researchers and the engineers who create their precision tools. She moved to Toronto to pursue an MBA in Science from the Schulich School of Business at York University. There, she was required to study finance and discovered her love for the markets and the stories behind the numbers. Rey pivoted to a finance career, starting out as an Investment Banking Analyst at Cranson Capital, a boutique investment bank providing M&A advice and financing for privately held real estate companies. At Cranson, she had the opportunity to hold multiple roles, roll up her sleeves and get her hands in the clay. Rey then moved to the CIBC Asset Management Global Group helping to manage large- and small-cap Canadian funds, U.S. healthcare funds, and institutional client accounts.
Craving a closer connection with, and the opportunity to bring a larger impact to, the individuals for whom she was managing funds, Rey joined BMO Private Investment Counsel. Here, she felt her private clients would be best taken care of by a team that truly works together for their best interests. Rey holds the Chartered Investment Manager (CIM®) designation, an MBA with a focus in Finance from Schulich, and a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Spanish Literature and a minor in Molecular Biology from the University of California, San Diego. She is fluent in Spanish and Farsi and speaks conversational Italian and French. Rey has served on the BMO Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee since 2021 and as an Executive Member of the Portfolio Management Club at Schulich since 2022. Her non-profit podcast informs and inspires successful women to maximize their career journeys.
Rey grew up in sunny San Diego. She loves to run, lift weights, practice yoga, ski, swim and surf. When she’s not outdoors, Rey enjoys reading, having great conversations with friends, and spending time with her husband and two children.
