Max Kirouac, CFA, CFP

Senior Investment Counsellor And Portfolio Manager*

I am a Senior Investment Counsellor and Portfolio Manager with BMO Private Wealth, working with a limited number of high‑net‑worth households in Winnipeg and across Canada. My clients are typically business owners, incorporated professionals, and retirees who value careful decision‑making, long‑term thinking, and a structured approach to managing complex financial lives. My role is to bring clarity and discipline to financial decisions—particularly where investments, taxes, and long‑term planning intersect.

I earned my Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University before returning to Winnipeg to begin my career with BMO. I later joined BMO’s Corporate Finance division, where I worked closely with business owners and management teams on lending, capital structure, and operational considerations. That experience continues to shape how I think about cash flow, risk, and capital allocation—principles that translate naturally into personal and family wealth management. I subsequently re‑joined BMO Private Wealth as an Investment Counsellor, where I now manage client portfolios on a discretionary basis.

Credentials and Perspective

  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) — earned 2019
  • Certified Financial Planner (CFP) — earned 2025

The combination of CFA and CFP designations reflects how I work in practice:
Institutional investment discipline supported by comprehensive, real‑world financial planning.

This allows portfolio decisions to be made with full awareness of retirement timelines, tax considerations, corporate structures, and estate objectives—rather than in isolation.

How I Work With Clients

My approach is long‑term, risk‑aware, and planning‑led.

I manage portfolios on a fully discretionary basis, meaning clients are not required to approve individual investment decisions. This structure supports consistency, discipline, and a focus on outcomes rather than short‑term market movements.

I place a strong emphasis on:

  • Clear, thoughtful communication
  • Tax‑aware implementation
  • Behavioural discipline during periods of uncertainty
  • Coordination with accountants and legal advisors where appropriate

To maintain a high standard of service, I intentionally limit the number of households I work with.

Beyond the Desk

I was born and raised in Winnipeg and have previously lived in Montreal and Calgary. Outside of work, I enjoy reading and playing music, and spending time with friends and family. I’m also a strong supporter of senior dog rescue and my spouse and I share our home with our 13 year old Yorkie Fergus.
